Employee onboarding is the process of helping new staff integrate into a business, which is not the same as training. Onboarding is the management of the early stages of a relationship between an organisation and a new employee and begins the very second the job offer is made.

Cortech Developments – Our onboarding process, why we believe it is vital to the business, and the services we deliver for our customers.

A well-managed employee onboarding process can deliver engaged and productive members of staff who understand the company culture and their role in it. If however, onboarding is badly managed or ignored altogether, a business can see a rapid loss of reputation and profit as it fails to engage and retain the best quality staff.

An article published by Business News Daily states:

  • Over one-third of companies do not have a structured onboarding process.
  • The focus of onboarding is often orientation, instead of the long-term productivity and success of the employee.
  • Poor onboarding is a major cause of employee turnover, which can cost a company 100-300% of the employee’s salary in total.

An onboarding program helps employees to stay engaged, and engaged employees who care about the business they work for will help it grow and better serve its customers. They will be actively looking for solutions and opportunities, and want to represent the business as best they can.

Companies with more engaged employees have better results than companies with fewer engaged employees. Some of the positive outcomes associated with having more engaged employees include:

  • Higher profits and lower turnover rates.
  • Better safety records and higher product quality.
  • Positive PR – better customer evaluations.
  • Employees are absent for fewer days.
  • Maintaining strong connections with employees.

Jason Blundell, Head of Sales & Marketing, comments “At Cortech we value our people and as a result, have a low turnover of staff. Engaging on an individual basis is crucial to their empowerment and our onboarding process is just one of the many ways we ensure our existing team and new starters feel welcome in their environment.”

Cortech has recently grown its Support Sales Team with the appointment of Harriet Spinks, the new Sales Proposal Coordinator. Harriet brings with her a wealth of sales administration experience that she has accumulated working across different sectors including sales and letting, airline, and promotional merchandise over the years.

As with all new members of the team, Harriet went through a comprehensive onboarding process that is designed to make all new employees feel welcomed, engaged, valued, and prepared to succeed in their new roles. It takes time to reach full benefits, and Cortech believes that following the 5C’s onboarding module – compliance, clarification, culture, connection, and check backs provides a truly above-average employment experience.

Impressed by the onboarding process she went through, Harriet explains “From my very first day I was welcomed into a friendly warm environment and have been constantly supported throughout my training process. I immediately felt at ease which has enabled me to feel confident in the role and tasks set before me.”

The appointment of this position is another part of our strategic investment programme, to provide the Sales Team with greater autonomy and allow Cortech to be more flexible and controlled in providing its customers with an improved service.

Excited by the new opportunity she concludes, “I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work within a professional company that encourages innovation and creativity and inspires all its members to individually grow and develop and then unite to fuel the company’s core values and goals.”

In conclusion, a good onboarding process is important because it acclimatises employees to their role, the company’s culture, and what the company has to offer. It also engages employees, creating workers that are committed to the company’s success and helps retain new hires by making them feel like a member of the team, which all result in business growth.

Cortech’s onboarding process helps promote the company ethos throughout the business’s different departments and ensures a healthy working environment that helps us better serve our customer base, providing advanced software solutions and support services.

Why your systems should be integrated

In today’s rapidly evolving world of technology, it can be a challenge to stay up to date with the most current, efficient, and secure software. Everything around us is changing at a rapid rate, including the way we live and work; traditional systems are becoming obsolete, and businesses are becoming more technology-driven. Specific software is needed in almost every industry, in every business, and for almost every business function. The integration of these systems and their operating software helps ensure the separate systems work together in harmony, physical components may consist of hardware and computer modules, whilst virtual components consist of all the software, applications, and databases.

System software integration, or IT integration as it is sometimes referred to,  facilitates communication between often disparate systems that do not normally communicate. This process can increase the speed of information, accelerate the outflow of information, and reduce operational costs, resulting in improved productivity and quality of operations, all while improving safety for personnel and visitors.

Investing in an integrated solution, such as Cortech Developments Datalog system, means you bring all the various systems together into one centralised platform. This not only makes them easier to manage, but also means the different areas can work together to provide a higher level of protection for the business, while also streamlining processes, workflows, and reporting.

About Cortech’s Datalog integrated modular system

Datalog is a modular software suite designed to simplify the control and management of otherwise separate systems into a centralised graphical user interface. In addition to streamlining system operations, Datalog increases situational awareness and accountability while reducing risks and operational costs.

Managing modern-day building systems can be a significant challenge. This is particularly true in the instant of simultaneous events and prioritising an effective and efficient response.

Datalog provides a host of benefits to our system operators, building operators, and facility managers. We have helped various organisations from a range of sectors to improve efficiency and mitigate risk.

  • As a single platform with just one database, Datalog 5 eliminates inefficiencies associated with managing control equipment as individual systems.
  • Specific events and emergent situations can be monitored, highlighted, and reacted to both swiftly and effectively.
  • System warnings, alarms, and alerts are displayed and identified clearly, assisting users with prioritised data to help direct appropriate response measures.
  • Data is displayed in a graphic, engaging format for improved accountability.
  • A full audit trail is logged, recording an accurate and reliable history of activity and response. Information on individual events is provided through management reporting tools.

Benefits of integrated security software systems

Security systems, for example, have historically contained multiple different subsystems such as CCTV, BMS (Building Management System), fire, intrusion detection, access control, license plate recognition, etc., all of which did their jobs independently of each other.

Modern integrated systems like Datalog allow CCTV cameras and fire alarms, for example, to communicate with each other and operate in tandem. This makes remote monitoring easy, as something that affects one element can then trigger an appropriate response in the others. This in turn, then leads to a reduction in false alarms and quicker incident response times.

One of the main benefits of system integration is greater situation awareness; critical information is more quickly available throughout the organisations, allowing for faster more accurate decisions to be made. Proactive, real-time monitoring helps to mitigate risks while minimising disruption to the business’s core objectives.

Another benefit of consolidating operations is that it not only provides a more comprehensive approach to security that is less vulnerable to incidents and better able to respond if one occurs but now management teams can obtain centralised reports saving valuable time.
